Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. At the age five she moved from London to Oxfordshire to attend the Dragon School. Emma decided to be an actor by the age of six. Through the years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing dance, acting and singing. By the age of ten she was performing and taking the lead in various Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Emma was initially discovered as a casting agent by her Oxford drama instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been chosen for these roles. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001, the film set records in its first day revenue as well as its opening weekend earnings. The critics were impressed by the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her performance. Emma's performance received nominations and later won awards in the film.
